YG Acoustics Peaks Loudspeaker Range Launched
YG Acoustics' new six-model Peaks loudspeaker series offers a new entry-point for the brand.
The YG Acoustics Peaks series comprises five speaker models bookended by the two-way bookshelf Cairn and the three-way floorstanding Summit. These are joined by the Descent powered subwoofer. The range promises to perform "at a new reference level for their price", according to the company.
The range is loaded with YG's proprietary ForgeCore tweeters and BilletCore drivers. These are mounted in thick aluminium front baffles precision machined in-house to a profile guided by detailed computational modelling, says YG. The drivers are handed duties through hand-built crossovers using "the highest quality components" on circuit boards that YG machines in-house.
We are told that the sealed cabinets are constructed from inch-thick dense resin fibre, curved to exact tolerances in custom presses and feature advanced bracing and acoustic absorbers that eliminate cabinet resonances and reflections.
The starting point of the range is the YG Acoustics Cairn; this two-way passive stand mount/bookshelf speaker incorporates a ForgeCore tweeter and 6-inch (15 cm) BilletCore driver, whereas the Tor standmount utilises a 7-inch BilletCore within its larger cabinet. The Talus is the smallest floorstander in the range, measuring 1015 x 270 x 325mm (H x W x D) and is also outfitted with a ForgeCore tweeter and 7-inch BilletCore unit.
The Ascent and Summit are three-way floorstanding designs, with the Ascent incorporating a ForgeCore tweeter along with 7-inch (18 cm) and 8.5-inch (22 cm) BilletCore drivers. Meanwhile, the range-topping Summit boasts a ForgeCore tweeter partnered by 7-inch (18 cm) and 10.25-inch (26 cm) BilletCore drivers within its 1135 x 310 x 500mm (H x W x D) cabinet.
Finally, the Descent active subwoofer features a 1,000W "audiophile amplifier" powering a new 11-inch (28 cm) BilletCore driver with a 3-inch voice coil, titanium former and advanced magnet inside its 445 x 400 x 475mm (H x W x D) cabinet.
YG Acoustics emphasise that everything from the drivers, cabinets and crossovers, to the veneer, lacquer and internal cabling has been carefully selected and modelled to deliver the most accurate, most musical performance possible.
The YG Acoustics Peaks range is available in Balanced Oak, Flamed Rosewood and Datuk Ebony, and starts at $8,500 for the Cairn, and $10,500 for the Tor. The Talus is $14,200 with the Ascent and Summit costing $19,800 and $25,000, respectively. The Descent sub is priced at $7,800.
The stands for the Cairn and Tor are available separately for $1,500 each.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
