Velodyne Unwraps New SPL-X Subwoofer Series

Velodyne Acoustics demonstrated its brand-new SPL-X Series at ISE 2025, designed for powerful and precise bass performance.

The SPL-X series features models available in 10-, 12-, 15-, and 18-inch sizes and builds on the DSP technology in Velodyne's MiniVee X and SC1500 models. These subwoofers feature a sleek curved cabinet design inspired by the premium Digital Drive Plus series.

The SPL-X subwoofers, which feature a 38mm thick cabinet construction, internal bracing, and potent magnet systems, are said to be optimised to deliver "superior acoustic performance."

Meanwhile, the amplifier modules range from 1,000 watts RMS (SPL-X 10) to 1,800 watts RMS (SPL-X 18), reportedly ensuring deep, dynamic bass.

The new carbon fibre drivers boast four-layer voice coils, double-centering spiders, and rear-ventilated motor units, which Velodyne claims results in precision and impact at all volume levels.

The SPL-X models include balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs alongside solid speaker terminals.

The Velodyne Acoustics AutoEQ App provides precise tuning and automatic calibration via the included microphone, optimising the subwoofer's performance for any room setup.

While at ISE, Velodyne Acoustics also introduced its SC1500 DSP-controlled subwoofer amplifier—a 1,500-watt powerhouse with 2-ohm stability, app control, and auto-calibration for passive subwoofers. This was joined by the SC-IW600X and SC-IWDVR in-wall subwoofers, described as sleek, discreet, high-performance models designed for seamless integration.

Additionally, the company announced its MiniVee X Limited Editions, available in high-gloss white and an exclusive transparent acrylic version showcasing internal engineering. Finally, Wi-Connect System II is the latest wireless audio system for flexible subwoofer and speaker placement without cables.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
