System Audio Silverback 1 Wireless System Launched

System Audio's Silverback 1 compact WiSA system promises smart wireless connectivity and room-filling sound.

System Audio's Silverback 1 is a slim A4-sized active speaker pair of speakers designed for discreet wireless operation in concert with the 'Stereo Hub' WiSA transmitter and control centre.

Launched at the recent UK Hi-Fi Show Live 2023, the Silverback 1 system promises a large, detailed soundstage without the physical in-room footprint with the Stereo Hub and a smartphone "capable of delivering room-filling wireless audio up to 24/192 resolution from any source" states the Danish brand. Sources include network players, PCs, CD players, games consoles, turntables and TVs.

Each two-way Silverback 1 active speaker marries a specially designed 5.5-inch woofer and waveguided 1-inch soft dome tweeter with twin 80W power amplifiers within a white or black satin cabinet (including built-in wall bracket), measuring just 31 x 32.5 x 13.5 cm.

The Silverback 1s will pair wirelessly with any WiSA-enabled device (Primare's SC15 network player/DAC, for instance) but are intended to partner with System Audio's 4.1 x 17 x 10 cm Stereo Hub handing you access to Roon Ready, Google Chromecast, Apple Airplay 2, Bluetooth, DLNA UPnP and Spotify Connect built-in, as well as USB Audio SP/DIF 24/192, HDMI ARC, 3 optical inputs, coax digital and 2 analogue inputs.

Alternatively, System Audio's new 'Surround Hub' will allow the Silverback 1s (and other Silverback speakers) to be part of a WiSA-enabled Dolby Atmos home cinema system with up to 8 channels of 24/96 resolution audio.

The System Audio Silverback 1 system is available from November 2023, priced at £1,799 for a pair of Silverback 1 speakers and £399 for the Stereo Hub and Remote Control.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
