Sennheiser Announces HD620S Headphones at High End Munich
High End Munich has officially started, meaning product announcements and launches are coming in hot and heavy, including Sennheiser announcing a new addition to the HD 600 series with the HD 620S.
Rocking a custom-tuned 42mm dynamic driver manufactured in the brand's Tullamore factory in Ireland, the closed-back HD 620S is supposed to have the same airy sound as the 600 series family while offering isolation from external noise.
Audiophile Product Manager Jermo Koehnke told StereoNET:
The hi-fi community has clamoured for a headphone with the best traits from our 600 series, yet isolates them from distractions at work, home, or in-between. Not only does the HD 620S deliver on that promise, its immersive imaging and brilliant impulse response make it an exceptional listening experience for every situation where a higher level of performance matters.
The chassis is iconic, with a steel plate that closes off the back volume, efficiently isolating and managing internal reflections that could cloud the purity of acoustic signals. The angled baffle inside is open to encourage air movement, and Sennheiser claims the HD 620S will offer listeners the "dramatic soundstage they want absent the fatiguing, boxy sound associated with sealed cans."
With a metal-reinforced headband and earcup housings, the HD 620S will offer a 1.8m cable that ends in a 3.5mm termination, along with a 6.3mm adapter. Sennheiser will also offer an optional balanced 4.4mm cable in the summer.
Currently available for preorder, the Sennheiser HD 620S will be available from 6 June 2024 at an RRP of £299.99 /€349.90.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
