Pro-Ject Revives a Classic with the Elemental Phono USB Final Edition

Pro-Ject Audio has unveiled the Elemental Phono USB Final Edition, a turntable that blends nostalgic charm with modern convenience.
This special edition returns its predecessor's streamlined, minimalist design, integrating a built-in phono stage and USB output for effortless vinyl digitisation. Sold with a personalised certificate of ownership, this model reintroduces a design that has been part of the company’s history for over three decades. While the manufacturer describes it as “minimalistic in appearance, maximum in sound,” Pro-Ject emphasises its construction quality, with a European-made chassis and meticulous craftsmanship.
Retaining the compact footprint of the original, the Elemental Phono USB Final Edition measures just 415 x 300 x 90mm and weighs a mere 2.7kg. Despite its lightweight build, Pro-Ject claims that its artificial stone chassis effectively absorbs vibrations and motor noise, a feature that preserves audio clarity. The turntable’s belt-driven mechanism operates with a two-piece pulley, allowing users to manually switch between 33 and 45 RPM.
The company states that the Final Edition comes equipped with Pro-Ject's Pick it 25A MM cartridge, which features silver coil windings that enhance both transparency and dynamics. The tonearm is an 8.6-inch aluminium design crafted for low mass and high rigidity to ensure precise tracking. For the platter, Pro-jects' well-known Acryl it E comes standard. Constructed of semi-transparent acrylic, it enhances both the turntable's aesthetic appeal and acoustic performance by minimising unwanted resonances. No felt mat is required.
A standout feature of the Elemental Phono USB Final Edition is its built-in phono stage, which allows users to connect directly to amplifiers or powered speakers without needing an external pre-amplifier. Furthermore, the turntable is equipped with a Delta-Sigma AD converter, allowing for 16-bit/48kHz digital conversion so users can record vinyl to a Mac or PC via USB-B.
True to Pro-Ject’s plug-and-play philosophy, the Final Edition arrives pre-adjusted with tracking and anti-skating force set by the manufacturer. The package includes a turntable base, clear dust cover, and cinch cable, making it a ready-to-go solution for vinyl enthusiasts.
While Pro-Ject emphasises its “audiophile” performance, real-world listening will determine whether the Final Edition’s updates justify its premium price tag. This turntable may be a compelling option for those seeking entry into high-quality vinyl playback with the convenience of digital archiving.
The Pro-Ject Elemental Phono USB Final Edition will be available at select Pro-Ject retailers and priced at US$699/€699. Given its limited-edition nature and personalised ownership certificate, it could become a collector’s item for both new and seasoned vinyl enthusiasts looking to own a piece of Pro-Ject history.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
