PRIMALUNA UNVEILS 12 NEW EVO AMPLIFIERS
Dutch-based valve-lovers PrimaLuna has announced a dozen new EvoLution amp offerings and a DAC for 2019.
Founded in 2003, PrimaLuna has focused on producing high-performance valve-based audio components at affordable prices.
Over the years the range grew, with multiple product levels including ProLogue Original, ProLogue Classic, ProLogue Premium, DiaLogue and DiaLogue Premium. The company received much praise in the global audio press and – most rewarding of all – thousands of letters and emails of appreciation from delighted music lovers around the world.
Today, Herman van den Dungen has decided it's time for the next phase in PrimaLuna's evolution.
The existing product range has been phased out and is now replaced by the 13-model EvoLution Series which reorganises the range into four clear levels – EVO 100, EVO 200, EVO 300 and EVO 400. EVO 100 represents entry-level, while EVO 400 is the pinnacle of the range.
Each of the four levels comprises an integrated amp, a preamp and a power amp. All the amplifiers build on the acclaimed design of outgoing models with enhancements such as new transformers and higher output power. The new range also sees upgrades to key circuit components and improved internal wiring.
You will also find new features on some models, including dedicated headphone amplification and – in the case of the EVO 300 and 400 power amps and EVO 400 preamp – balanced XLR connections.
Additionally, a separate phono stage, isolated in its own enclosure, attaches underneath the integrated and preamp models as an option for those running a turntable.
Baker's Dozen
The thirteenth component is a DAC called the EVO 100 Tube Digital AnaLogue Converter. PrimaLuna boasts that it features the world's first valve-based data clocking device and we broke the news of this back in April.
The new models embody all the things that PrimaLuna fans love about the company's products – superb valve sound at affordable prices, with class-leading reliability, flexibility and ease of use – while bringing enhanced design and some ingenious new ideas to the table.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
