KEF Announces Updated LSX II Wireless Speakers

When KEF launched its LSX wireless loudspeaker back in 2018 (reviewed here), we suspect KEF's engineers and product managers already knew the follow-up speaker and smaller sibling to its LS50 range of speakers would be hugely popular.

And they weren't wrong. Dubbed by the company as a 'Stereo Wireless Music System', it's gone on to fill small apartments, second living areas, and even offices as a complete, high-tech and connected music system.

Some four years later, we've been anticipating an update to the original LSX, given the company's wide range of updates across its range in recent times. Enter the LSX II, which the company says is “an enhancement of the original, award-winning LSX range”.

Of obvious note is the implementation of KEF's new W2 wireless platform and increased connectivity options. LSX II also takes direction from the company's more recent KEF Connect app, with an extensive choice of streaming possibilities, plus Airplay 2, Chromecast, and Roon. Increasing its already versatile connectivity options is the introduction of HDMI ARC, meaning you can now hook up your TV also.

Many readers will ask if KEF's breakthrough META technology has been slipstreamed into the latest release, but instead, the company has opted for its 11th-Generation Uni-Q driver, which by all accounts offers significantly audible improvements over its predecessor.

LSX II is available in five statement finishes, including Mineral White and Lava Red models finished with matte satin and high-gloss spray, respectively. The Carbon Black and Cobalt Blue are clad in a specially designed fabric by Danish contemporary textile designer, Kvadrat. The Soundwave by Terence Conran Edition was one of the iconic British designer's final collaborations. The version sees the 'soundwave' pattern woven into the unique Kvadrat fabric complemented with Conran's signature blue on the speaker port and driver.

Nigel Ng, General Manager of Advance Audio, KEF's distributor in Australia, told StereoNET:

We're very excited about the latest iteration of the hugely successful LSX. The speakers always punched well above their weight in audio performance, and now having them on the KEF Connect platform means it's never been easier to access. All people need to do is choose a colour!

KEF certainly has its finger on the pulse of future Hi-Fi. Good sound and even more connectivity conveniently rolled up into a plug 'n play solution such as the LSX II presented here have made high fidelity sound more accessible.

Available from June 23rd, the KEF LSX II will sell for £1,199
