JICO Clipper Dual-Fitting MM Cartridge Expands Your Options

JICO's Clipper cartridge is designed to surpass standard MM cartridges with its dual-fitting capabilities and Tapered S cantilever.
As a cartridge, stylus, and vinyl accessory manufacturer, JICO is capitalising on the resurgence of LPs and singles. Now, it has launched its first original Moving Magnet cartridge: the Clipper.
The Clipper cartridge works with JICO's N44-7 and N44G styli, as well as the exclusive CRCP/MK1 stylus. We're told its unique design optimally balances the centre of gravity between the left and right channels. The Tapered S cantilever ensures precise vibration reproduction, promising an immersive sound experience.
One of the standout features of the Clipper is its dual-fitting capability, appealing to vinylistas who enjoy experimenting. While it delivers optimal performance with its dedicated stylus, the cartridge is also compatible with Shure's 44-series replacement needles. This includes JICO's Nude Diamond, Synthetic Diamond, Morita Wood Cantilever, and SAS models, in addition to vintage Shure styli.
Furthermore, the JICO Clipper is equipped with the world's first Tapered S cantilever, a design reportedly inspired by Audio Empire and Swing record needles. The tapered aluminium structure reduces mass at the stylus tip, allowing for more accurate vibration transmission. JICO claims this innovation results in a richer and more dynamic sound. After extensive sound testing, the company chose a 0.12mm solid natural diamond conical tip, which it says enhances mid-to-high frequency clarity.
The specified frequency response of the Clipper is 20Hz to 20kHz, with an output voltage range of 5.0mV to 8.0mV.
Weighing 16.7g (including the headshell), the Clipper features a glossy black UVCRM resin body, ensuring durability and long-term reliability. The cartridge is also designed with an ApexGlide Headshell finger lift, reminiscent of an airliner's tail fin, adding an elegant touch of 1950s retro-futurism.
The JICO Clipper MM Cartridge is now available for US$500/£399.95, which includes a stylus. The Clipper stylus (CRCP/MK1 replacement) costs US$135/£109.95.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
