Aston Martin’s DB12 Sports Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System
Aston Martin announces Bowers & Wilkins as its new audio partner, starting with the DB12 super tourer.
Aston Martin has teamed up with British audio icon Bowers & Wilkins to create the sound system for its brand-new flagship super tourer, the DB12.
Under the hood of the DB12's meticulously honed chassis is a "class-leading" 680PS/800NM V8 Twin-Turbo powertrain. However, should you require a different soundtrack whilst carving your way through country lanes, there is also the option of a 15-speaker audio system powered by two amplifiers which boasts a combined power output of 1,170W.
As well as dedicated 3D speakers in the headlining and a powerful subwoofer, there is a raft of Bowers & Wilkins' propriety tech to help immerse you in music, including the brand's double dome tweeter and five Continuum 100mm midrange drivers.
A trio of high-frequency drivers employing the company's tweeter-on-top tech are mounted on the dashboard. We're told that separating them from the main cabinets helps reduce colouration and reflections from the windscreen, which ultimately can affect sound quality. These are joined by five Bowers & Wilkins 25mm Nautilus tweeters in the doors and B-pillars.
Dan Shepherd, Vice President of Licensing and Partnerships at Bowers & Wilkins, told StereoNET:
The alignment of Bowers & Wilkins with Aston Martin is an entirely natural one, with both celebrating their British heritage while being renowned for innovation and creating thrilling experiences. As well as car-audio integration, this exciting new partnership will also lead to elevated brand co-operations in the future.
This opens up the expectation to see more Bowers & Wilkins sound systems in future Aston Martin models but could the partnership also birth Aston Martin edition headphones as we've seen with McLaren? This could even give James Bond options should the 007 edition not complement his wardrobe. Could this also translate over to Zeppelin and Wedge Aston Martin editions? Colour us curious.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
