Acoustic Energy’s Flagship Corinium Loudspeakers Launched

Corinium stands as Acoustic Energy's break into the high-end loudspeaker arena, and it has now officially launched.

Following its High End Munich debut and, most recently, a 'soft launch' at UK Audio Show 2023, Corinium is the culmination of a three-year project by Acoustic Energy's in-house design team, resulting in a high-end flagship loudspeaker.

The brand-new, next-generation floor-standing loudspeaker takes its name from what the Romans dubbed Acoustic Energy's Cirencester home. It promises to set “new benchmarks for performance, design and value within the higher-end audiophile sector”, and it has certainly been attracting plenty of attention at the aforementioned shows - especially in its British Racing Green finish.

MD and Designer Mat Spandl told StereoNET:

The new Corinium is a loudspeaker that's markedly more dynamic, more live sounding and more musically involving than any previous generation of product we've designed before. This has been achieved by developing brand-new drive units, careful selection of crossover components and creating an enclosure that's both acoustically and aesthetically stunning.

The tweeter sports a new and unique soft dome material that's said to be lighter than carbon fibre and proven to lower colouration and increase delicate high-speed transients.

Meanwhile, the 120mm mid and 2x140mm bass drivers are derived from the same carbon fibre units used in the brand's 500 Series. This second-gen sees them further developed with an ultra-rigid version of the carbon fibre cone, driven by a long throw voice coil in a low hysteresis motor structure.

Additionally, the extra cabinet width allowed the development of a new 165mm driver to deliver a bass alignment combining weight, speed and slam to produce a big, powerful, controlled and natural low-frequency response. The frequency range is given as 32Hz - 30kHz (- 6dB) / 38Hz - 25kHz (-3dB) alongside a 92dB/m/2.83v quoted sensitivity.

Driver duties are assigned at 260Hz and 3400Hz via a 3-way crossover “optimised for best transient performance”, featuring “high-quality components” connected to the drive units using “audiophile-grade” internal wiring via a patented arrangement of conductors.

Acoustic Energy's latest tech is housed in a beautifully curved, exquisitely finished inert enclosure measuring 1100mm (inc. spikes) x 235mm x 385mm (HxWxD). The hybrid 'Resonance Suppression Composite' (RSC) cabinets boast up to 45mm thickness for optimal performance. The 4-degree tilt improves the time alignment of sound to the listener, whilst the 6mm ultra-rigid aluminium front baffle firmly houses the drivers and isolates any cabinet resonances from the listening environment.

The new Corinium loudspeaker is suitable for medium to large-sized listening environments and will be available in real wood veneer, matt black, matt white and metallic British Racing Green cabinet finishes from next month, starting at £6,000 per pair.
