Triangle Hifi Announces New Borea Connect Active Speakers

Updated with modern connectivity features, the new Triangle Borea BR02 Connect and BR03 Connect speakers will be even easier to integrate into your home.

French audio brand Triangle Hifi has launched plenty of great products over the years, with the introduction of active loudspeakers in the Borea lineup in 2022 with the Borea BR02 BT and Borea BR03 BT speakers, which impressed us when we reviewed them.

Now, those two speakers have been updated with new features. The first notable addition is that of an HDMI port, which means the BR02 Connect and BR03 Connect can now be hooked up to a television via an HDMI cable through an ARC port, allowing the speakers to be used as part of your home theatre setup. Once set up, the speakers can be controlled via the supplied remote control in the box or the TV's remote directly, thanks to CEC support.

Also, the speakers now come with a USB-B input port, enabling you to hook them up to a PC. While it's a touch odd that Triangle has decided to go with USB-B instead of the more common, universal USB-C, it's a nice new addition to allow consumers to use the speakers (notably the more compact BR02 Connect) with their computers.

Other connectivity features remain the same, including an integrated phono preamplifier for vinyl enthusiasts. Triangle has also continued partnering with Austrian brand Pro-Ject to offer a bundle that includes a turntable for a complete system.

There is also Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD Low Latency onboard with support up to 24-bit/48kHz, and coaxial and optical digital inputs alongside an RCA sub output for a subwoofer to be added.

As for drivers and amplification, the BR02 Connect has a 5-inch natural cellulose paper membrane driver and an EFS waveguide fabric tweeter powered by 2 x 50W of Class D amplification, while the larger BR03 Connect has a 6.5-inch driver powered by 2 x 60W of Class D amplification.

Both speakers use the DAC ESS 9018K2M chip, which allows a maximum PCM sampling of 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD256.

The colours on offer have changed slightly as well. Triangle is now offering a new Oak and Blue colour in addition to the Black, Cream, Green and Light Oak options. In case you're wondering what's the difference between the two, the Oak colour has a darker cabinet than the Light Oak, although both models have the same white baffle up front.

As for the new Blue colour, the baffle and front panel are the same shade of Blue as before, although the cabinet has also gotten darker compared to the previous Borea BT speakers.

The BR02 Connect retails at €549 for a pair while the BR03 Connect is going for €649, likewise for a set of two.
