Stack Audio SmoothLAN Released

Stack Audio's SmoothLAN promises to remove crosstalk and interference from your network cable.

Stack Audio's new SmoothLAN network filter has one purpose: to remove crosstalk and interference from a network cable and eliminate a potential source for parasitic noise entering sensitive Hi-Fi equipment via your music streamer, so says the company.

Designed and manufactured from the ground up in the UK, we are told that the SmoothLAN utilises high-quality materials and components, which remains true to the Stack Audio philosophy of “delivering products that exemplify superior quality and performance that are also excellent value for money”.

Stack Audio tells us that the SmoothLAN's precision machined aluminium case incorporates six fully shielded pockets that act as barriers to isolate electronic components from each other and external disturbances. Meanwhile, “EMI-absorbing materials” are embedded inside the pockets, further neutralising noise reflections from components.

This “perfectly sealed enclosure” apparently guarantees the absence of gaps between the shielded pockets and thus prevents any compromise in performance by amplifying specific frequency ranges.

Under the hood, discrete components are said to facilitate high-speed traces (the signal paths on the circuit board), with ground planes and shields between them, optimising signal paths for superior performance.

Furthermore, optimised grounding minimises crosstalk with each circuit on the PCB surrounded by copper grounded to the case. This, we're informed, creates an effective shield against interference and ensures return currents do not interfere with neighbouring circuits.

Finally, the CAT7 connecting cable is made from oxygen-free copper with gold-plated connections to safeguard the purity of the Ethernet signal between the SmoothLAN and your music streamer.

The Stack Audio SmoothLAN is available in a choice of Black or Silver with an RRP of £200 EX-VAT and comes covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee.
