Sonos Move 2 Speaker Officially Unveiled
The Move 2 speaker is the first stereo portable speaker from Sonos and the company's most powerful and most sustainable.
Sonos touts the Move 2 as a “premium portable powerhouse” that sports a wholly overhauled acoustic architecture, design and feature upgrades thanks to lessons learned from creating its Era wireless speakers.
The Era's influence on Move 2 can instantly be spotted on the touch controls on the top of the speaker, including the new volume slider.
Thanks to two angled tweeters and a woofer powered by a class D amp, Sonos boasts that the Move 2 can now produce stereo sound - as well as making Move 2 the brand's “most powerful portable speaker”. We're told to expect a “wide, spacious stereo sound, crisp vocals and a deep, punchy bass.” Moreover, automatic Trueplay tuning is said to continually optimise the sound no matter where you sit Move 2.
Streaming comes by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 (just your standard AAC and SBC codecs, though), alongside Apple AirPlay 2 with the Sonos app handing you access to the likes of TIDAL, Amazon Music, Spotify, internet, radio, as well as EQ adjustments. Amazon Alexa and Sonos's own voice control is supported.
The Move has always been the larger sibling to the Roam, and this remains true with the Move 2, tipping the scales at 3kg and measuring 168 x 62 x 60 mm (HxWxD). The latest model will rock out for a full 24 hours before requiring a disco nap and recharge, more than doubling its predecessor's stamina score. Additionally, should you ever need to swap out the battery, this can be done by Sonos rather than you binning your Move 2.
The Move 2 also has an upgraded wireless charging base, but you can use a USB-C cable if you prefer. Furthermore, the Move 2 can recharge your phone, ensuring the party never stops!
Built to withstand beach parties and the like, Move 2 is certified IP56, meaning it can survive water splashes and dirt, whilst the “shock-absorbent materials” used in its construction should prevent anything nasty from happening should it get kicked over or nudged off of a table.
Naturally, you can add the Move 2 to other Sonos products to create a multi-room system. You can also link two Move 2 speakers via Wi-Fi to play as a Bluetooth-streaming stereo pair.
The Sonos Move 2 is available in olive, black or white finishes from September 20th for an asking price of £449/ €499.
