Unashamedly dubbed Nucleus Titan, the new streamer/server solution sits above the previous Nucleus Plus flagship.

Roon is a streaming software that aggregates your stored digital music files with millions of tracks from TIDAL and Qobuz (additional subscriptions required) into a single, searchable, dynamic interface that includes artist bios, liner notes and more. Roon has recently been acquired by Harman International, the parent company of audio brands Harman Kardon, JBL, Arcam, Mark Levinson, AKG and Revel.

Designed to work with Roon's digital music management platform, the Nucleus Titan features a precision-machined billet aluminium enclosure made from a solid block of metal, with Roon citing advancements in “manufacturing processes and hardware customisation” that have allowed it to deliver a stylish “statement piece” with three finish options for that interchangeable top plate - metal, stone composite and wood.

The Nucleus Titan is, of course, optimised to work with Roon's OS and promises to deliver “bit-perfect playback” of your hi-res digital music collection to a Roon-compatible hi-fi system. Roon tells us that Titan supersedes the Nucleus Plus thanks to “updated hardware and performance”, which includes an “elegant self-cooling design with silent, fan-less operation”.

The Titan boasts a pair each of USB-C and USB-A inputs alongside two audio-only HDMI ports. We assume it also has at least one ethernet port for wired connection to your home network; however, Roon states that it will support multiroom audio setups.

Meanwhile, additional internal storage is offered in three sizes: 2TB, 4TB and 8TB.

The Nucleus Titan starts at US$3,699 for the driverless model and goes up from there for the 2TB, 4TB and 8TB versions. The original Nucleus was available in zero, 2TB and 4TB options, costing between US$1,459 (£1,700) and US$2,259, while the step-up Nucleus Plus model started at US$2,559 (£2,800).

Naturally, you will also need Roon's excellent software at US$15 per month or US$12.49 per month if you pay the annual fee upfront. A lifetime subscription is also available for US$830.
